
Ducks Drub Red Foxes, 19-6

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ? The University of Oregon lacrosse team got its three game spring break road trip off to a good start as they defeated Marist, 19-6, Tuesday afternoon at Leonidoff Field, in Poughkeepsie.
The win moves the Ducks to 5-4 on the season overall and puts them within one game of matching last season's win total.
Anna Poponyak got the win and moves her record to 5-4 as she collected seven saves and allowed three goals.
“I was very pleased with the team in today's effort, we played well in all phases of the game and had solid efforts in offense and defense as well as at the goalkeeping position,” head coach Jen Larsen said.
The Ducks were led by Kate Fleming's five goals on the day as they dominated every phase of the game. In addition to Fleming's solid days work Jana Bradley added four scores, Ilsa van den Berg and Jenny Browne both added a pair. On the day ten Ducks scored goals.
Allison Leiner was once again all over the field for Oregon as she collected six groundballs and caused four turnovers in addition to scoring a goal and adding a two assists.
Oregon scored the first four goals of the game, opening the scoring with just 41 seconds off the clock as Bradley put a van den Berg pass into the back of the goal, and never looked back as they took a 14-3 halftime lead.
The Ducks out shot Marist, 28-8 in the first half keeping the Red Foxes pinned deep in the offensive zone, while also controlling 14 draws in the opening half.
Oregon kept the pressure up in the second half taking 10 shots to Marist's nine and controlling the ball once again scooping 13 groundballs to the Red Foxes 10.
The Ducks will be back in action Thursday when they face Colgate at Tyler's Field, beginning at 4:00 p.m. (PST).
