Rain Cancels Final Round at Stanford, Ducks Finish 10th

STANFORD, Calif. ? Heavy rains Sunday at the 6,742-yard, par-70 Stanford Golf Course forced the cancellation of the final round of the U.S. Intercollegiate. With official final results reverting back to the 36 holes that were completed on Saturday, Oregon finished the tournament in 10th place and sophomore Joey Benedetti earned his third consecutive top-25 showing by tying for 12th.

Teams played for about an hour Sunday morning before persistent rains wiped out the final round.

Recapping Saturday's 36-hole standings, No. 5 UCLA won the tournament at 18-over 578, followed by USC at 579, host Stanford at 580, Washington at 583 and San Jose State at 592. Oregon State and No. 17 San Diego State tied for sixth at 594, with UC Irvine (595), Northern Colorado (599) and Oregon (600) rounding out the top 10.

Benedetti shot rounds of 74-71 to tie for 12th at 5-over 145. The sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., tied for eighth at last week's Thunderbird Invitational and tied for 22nd at the Duck Invitational in March.

Oregon also counted rounds of 69-77 from Derek Sipe, The sophomore from Yorba Linda, Calif., tied for 15th at 146 to earn his second top-15 finish in the last three events.

Rob Grube of Stanford shot a 6-under 64 Saturday afternoon to run away with the individual medalist race. He finished at 5-under 135 for the tournament, six strokes better than Erik Flores of UCLA, Taylor Wood of USC and Garrett Sapp of UC Irvine, who were all at 141.

Next up for Oregon is the Pac-10 championships April 24-26 at Palm Desert, Calif.
