Ducks Second at Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge

TACOMA, Wash. ? Oregon will have three players squaring off against the top 10 of the Big Ten as the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge will be decided by match play on Monday. The Pac-10 holds a slim 21-19 edge after 40 matches that were played Sunday.
The top pairings for Monday include Kevin Chappell of UCLA versus Ryan Brehm of Michigan State at No. 1, the Bruins' Craig Leslie against Andy Paulson of Minnesota at No. 2, Oregon State's James Allenby paired with Minnesota's Clayton Rask at No. 3 and Dukeminier against Ben Pisani of Minnesota at No. 4.
Regulation scoring will be kept for team and individual tournament standings, while the conference challenge winner will be decided by Monday's match play. The Pac-10 leads the conference challenge series portion of the tournament 2-1 after winning last season's event.
Sunday, Dukeminier's 1-under 143 led three Ducks in the top 10 as Oregon stood second after two rounds of the tournament, played at the 7,471-yard, par-72 Chambers Bay golf course.
Dukeminier was tied for fourth with Brehm, four strokes back of second round leader Chappell, who carded a 5-under 139.
Allenby and Leslie were tied for second at 142.
The Bruins led the tournament at 5-over 581.
The Ducks surged into second place thanks to Dukeminier, as well as senior Derek Sipe and freshman Isaiah Telles, who were tied for ninth at 4-over 148. Dukeminier had steady rounds of 71-72 Sunday, while Sipe had a 73-75 series and Telles a pair of 74s. Senior Joey Benedetti was tied for 17th at 150 following rounds of 78-72.
As a team, Oregon shot a 12-over 588.
Minnesota was third at 591, with Michigan State and Northwestern tied for fourth at 597. Washington was sixth at 598 with Oregon State seventh at 604 and Wisconsin eighth at 613.
Eight players competing as individuals who were unable to complete their second rounds will do so Monday prior to the final round.
In addition to Dukeminier, Oregon's other match play pairings include Telles versus Matthew Dennison of Northwestern at No. 6, Sipe versus Jordan Elsen of Wisconsin at No. 9, Benedetti against Victor Almstrom of Minnesota at No. 10 and Sean Maekawa paired with Dan Doyle of Northwestern at No. 12.
The newly launched Big Ten Network will provide tournament coverage and air a recap show on a tape-delayed basis. Air times are 4 p.m. on Nov. 4 (debut), 11 a.m. on Nov. 6 (repeat) and 10 a.m. on Nov. 9 (repeat).
