All Five Ducks Below Par at Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. ? Joey Benedetti and Sean Maekawa shot 69s to lead Oregon to a fifth-place tie after Monday's first round of the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational. All five Ducks were under par at the par-72, 6,777-yard Brookside Country Club.
"It's course where you can certainly shoot a low score," said Oregon coach Casey Martin. "But it's still a solid accomplishment to have all five guys under par. It would be really be something if we could do that Tuesday and Wednesday."
Benedetti, a senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., and Maekawa, a freshman from Pa'auilo, Hawaii, were tied for ninth at 3-under, three shots off the pace set by Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio and Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen. Benedetti birdied his final three holes to get to 3-under, while Maekawa birdied two of the last three holes.
Kansas State led the team chase at 15-under 273, two shots ahead of Marquette. Charlotte and UC Davis were tied for third at 278.
Oregon and San Jose State were six shots back of the Wildcats at 9-under 279. Fresno State was seventh at 280, Brigham Young and Ohio State were tied for eighth at 282 and Cal State Northridge was 10th at 284.
Also for the Ducks, senior Derek Sipe was tied for 22nd after firing a 2-under 70, while freshmen Jack Dukeminier and Isaiah Telles were tied for 32nd at 1-under 71.
