Golfers Climb to Fourth at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. ? Freshman Sean Maekawa carded a 5-under 67 to help Oregon climb a spot to fourth following the second round of the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational, played Tuesday at the par-72, 6,777-yard Brookside Country Club.
Kansas State shot a 14-under 274 to take a six-stroke lead into Wednesday's final round with a two-day total of 547. Charlotte was second at 553 with UC Davis third at 556.
The Ducks shot a 9-under 279 for the second straight day and were 11 strokes back of the Wildcats at 558.
Fresno State led the next five at 560, followed by Marquette (561), San Jose State (562), UC Santa Barbara (564), Pacific (567) and Brigham Young and Ohio State tied for 10th at 568.
Maekawa's two-day total of 8-under 136 was tied for fourth and three shots off the pace set by Stefan Wiedergruen of Charlotte, who had a 67 Tuesday for a 11-under 133 total.
Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge and Joe Ida of Kansas State were tied for second at 134. Maekawa and four others were tied for fourth at 8-under.
Three Duck teammates joined Maekawa in the red numbers. Senior Joey Benedetti had a 2-over 70 and was tied for 17th, while Derek Sipe and Jack Dukeminier each shot 71s Tuesday. Sipe was tied for 24th at 141, while Dukeminier was tied for 29th at 142.
The tournament concludes with a final round Wednesday.
