EUGENE -- The middle of the Ducks lineup carried the team to a 5-2 victory over Easter Washington Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
At the No. 2 position, Alexander Cornelissen gritted out the toughest match of the day. The Lauwe, Belgium native battled to a 5-7, 7-6 (4), (10-3) win over Kyle Schraeder.
"Alex was great today at finding a way to gut it out when his game wasn't feeling the best and get the win," director of tennis Nils Schyllander said. "He was able to change his game to get it done and that is the best kind of win."
All of the other Oregon wins were relatively easy as Ric Mortera rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Patrick Millican at the No. 3 spot while Mikeal Myrhed also cruised at the No. 4 position, taking his match against Keithan Gregg, 6-0, 7-5.
The final singles win would come from Geoff Embry at the No. 5 position as he was won by a single break in the first set and took the second set easily, winning his match against Art Karas, 7-5, 6-2.
The Ducks won the doubles point thanks to victories at the number two and three positions as the pair of Francisco Gallardo and Marcos Verdasco got the 8-5 victory over Millican and Nico Riego Dios at the second spot and Mortera and Stephen Wiechert fought in a tiebreak before taking the 9-8 (5) win.
The Ducks have a week off and then head into Pac-10 play, beginning with UCLA and USC on March 30 and 31.
