No. 22 Ducks Fall 5-2 to No. 42 Cougars

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The bottom of the order was good for the Ducks on Sunday, but the top of the Cougar order was better as Washington State defeated Oregon 5-2, as the Ducks returned to Pac-10 play.
With the loss the No. 23 Ducks fall to 10-5 on the year and 0-3 in the Pac-10, while the No. 42 Cougars move to 12-7 on the year and 2-5 in the conference.
Senior Monica Hoz de Vila defeated Aleksandra Stefanova at the No. 5 position, 7-5, 6-3, and sophomore Claudia Hirt picked up the 7-5, 6-3 victory over Anastesia Opata at the No. 6 position, but it would come too late in the match as the Cougars had already clinched the match after a victory in doubles and the first four singles matches.
At the top position, senior Dominika Dieskova was downed by Ekaterina Burduli, 6-3, 6-0 in the quickest match of the day.
Ana Cecilia Olivos rallied to win the second set but ultimately fell to Amy Toth at the No. 2 position, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Anna Powaska took the first set of her match at the No. 4 position, but also would go down in three sets as Aleksandra Cekic would rally for the 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.
The Ducks will look to pick up their first Pac-10 victory as they head to Seattle to face Washington on Tuesday at Noon.
