04/10/07 | Women's Golf
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 54-ranked University of Oregon women's golf team climbed six places into fourth place overall Tuesday in the final round of the Indiana Invitational, held at Crooked Stick Golf Course.
The Ducks carded a final round 296 – the second-lowest score of the round and tourney – to finish with a final combined score of 610 after they shot 314 in Monday's opening round in the Indiana University-hosted event.
UO's 296 score Tuesday was its lowest of the spring slate and second-lowest including the fall after its combined for a second-round 295 in the Stanford Intercollegiate last October on the par-71 Stanford Golf Course.
In the overall standings, No. 43 Michigan climbed three spots to win the team title (308-295-603) after it logged the best score of the invitational Tuesday (295). First-day leader and No. 23 Michigan State followed in second place (299-307-606), ahead of Illinois (third, 304-305-609) and Oregon (fourth, 314-296-610).
Other ranked teams in the field included No. 32 Northwestern (sixth, 311-303-614), No. 48 Indiana (ninth, 312-311-623) and No. 31 UNLV (15th-tie, 323-320-643).
Individually, Duck sophomore Cathryn Bristow and senior Kim McCready both shot final round scores of 70 to finish in ties for fourth (78-70-148) and sixth places (80-70-150), respectively.
On Tuesday, Bristow carded birdies on the par-4 third, the par-3 13th and 17th holes and had only one bogey on the par-3 third hole. McCready enjoyed a string of four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the par-4 10th, 12th and 14th holes and the par-3 13th hole, and her only bogeys came on the par-4 second and par-3 third holes.
McCready's appearance was her first in nearly two months after she missed the last two tournaments with a wrist injury. The Placerville, Calif., native also shot rounds of 70 in the first round of the Baja Classic that she won in early February (70-75-145), while last fall, she posted a school record four-under (67) in the Stanford Intercollegiate final round. Altogether during the fall and spring season, the former All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection has led UO in nine of her 16 rounds of duty.
Freshman Felicia Eastick followed in a tie for 13th place (75-77-152) – her second top-15 finish in as many tournaments – and UO's final scorer was junior Victoria Wenslow (60th, 71-70-161). UO freshman Kate Hildahl also played Tuesday and tied for 73rd overall (85-79-164).
Overall on the individual leaderboard, Seul Ki Park of Illinois held onto her first-day lead with her second straight even-par round (72-72-144), and won by five strokes over runners-up Rachel Meikle of Michigan State (74-73-147) and Noriko Kanakzaki of Notre Dame (75-72-147).
The tournament was supposed to feature three rounds altogether, but one round was cancelled Monday because of frigid temperatures.
