Ducks Downed in Denver, 20-6

DENVER - Kate Fleming's two quick goals in the middle of the second half cut the Denver lead to 8-6, but the Pioneers would go on a 12 goal run to defeat Oregon 20-6 Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The loss marks the first conference defeat and the last match of the regular season for the Ducks (11-6, 4-1), who will enter the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Pioneers (14-2, 4-0) will be the No. 1 seed, but still must face California to end their regular season. Both teams will have first round byes and the Ducks hold the tiebreaker over California even if they defeat Denver.
Fleming led the Ducks with four goals on the day, with Jana Bradley and Brooke Dieringer tallying the other scores for the Ducks.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the contest as the teams felt each other out in mild and overcast weather. Dieringer finally found the back of the net for the Ducks at the 12:38 mark. Two more Denver goals made the score 6-1, but Oregon seemed to gain momentum at the end of the half as Bradley put home a goal with 2:21 remaining and Fleming put her first through the back of the net with :34 seconds remaining.
Denver's Ali Fleury ended the half with a goal with :15 seconds remaining to make it 7-3, but the Ducks came out of the locker room undaunted and rolled off a 3-1 run in the first ten minutes.
Oregon's offense would flow through Fleming to open the half, as she tallied goals at the 28:11, 22:03, and 21:26 marks. Denver called a timeout after the third Fleming goal cut the lead to two and the Pioneers seemed to have an answer for everything the Ducks would do the rest of the game.
The MPSF conference tournament will begin May 5 in Davis, Calif. and the Ducks will await the winner of the first round game between the No. 6 seed and No. 3 seeded Stanford.
