McCready Leads Golfers in Pac-10 Final Day
04/25/07 | Women's Golf
SEATTLE ? Senior Kim McCready and sophomore Cathryn Bristow paced the No. 49 University of Oregon women's golf team Wednesday with their 24th- and 27th-place finishes overall in the 21st annual Pacific-10 Conference Championships at the Broadmoor Golf Course in Seattle, Wash.
As a team, the Ducks remained in ninth place Wednesday after a final round 332 after they shot 324 and 312 in Monday's and Tuesday's opening rounds.
On the par-72, 6,196-yard course, McCready paced UO for the first time in the tourney Wednesday with a six-over 78 ? the 10th time she has posted Oregon's best score in her 19 rounds of the 2006-07 campaign. On Wednesday, the Placerville, Calif., native shot a birdie on the par-4 eighth hole, parred 10 holes, and shot seven bogeys over the span of 10 holes from the seventh through 16th holes.
In the overall standings, the former All-Pac-10 honorable mention McCready climbed three spots Wednesday to 24th place, and was just shy of her best league performance from '04 (21st), while she tied for 37th in '05. Overall this season, McCready led UO in four of her seven appearances, including a win in the Baja Classic in early February.
Other Duck scorers Wednesday included Bristow (27th-tie, 76-78-85-239), freshman Felicia Eastick (36th-tie, 81-80-82-243) and freshman Kate Hildahl (49th, 95-78-87-260). Junior Victoria Wenslow rounded out UO's contingent Wednesday (48th, 88-83-88-259) and finished one place ahead of Hildahl overall.
Bristow paced UO for the first two rounds and entered the day in 17th overall at 10-over (154) after she shot the team's best score of the second round (78), as did Hildahl. Bristow also paced the Ducks in the opening round (76), and overall has logged Oregon's low round in six of the past nine rounds.
Overall in the team standings, No. 1 Arizona State stretched its lead by 11 strokes in Wednesday's final round to win by 18 strokes (297-300-300-897) over No. 12 UCLA (second, 305-299-311-915), No. 6 USC (third, 303-311-307-921), No. 15 Arizona (309-304-310-923), California (fifth, 312-311-303-926), No. 7 Stanford (sixth, 309-315-311-935), Washington (seventh, 313-308-317-938), No. 43 Washington State (eighth, 317-318-309-944), No. 49 Oregon (324-316-332-972) and Oregon State (10th, 329-323-330-982).
UCLA's Tiffany Joh won a two-hole playoff over ASU's Anna Nordqvist for the individual tournament crown. After both golfers parred the par-4 10th hole, Nordqvist missed a birdie putt on the 18th, while Joh made the birdie putt to win.
Joh (74-70-74) shot a 74 in regulation Wednesday to make up a four-stroke deficit on first- and second-day leader Nordqvist (68-72-78) who carded a final round 78 ? a marked contrast from her tourney low opening round 68.
Stanford's Mari Chun followed in third place (71-73-75-219) and finished ahead of Arizona State's Juliana Murcia (fourth, 76-73-71-220), California's Allison Goodman (fifth, 73-78-73-224) and Arizona's Alison Walshe (sixth, 75-74-76-225).
