Consistent Play Leads Ducks to Fifth at Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. ? Oregon counted consistent rounds from a pair of seniors and a pair of sophomores to stand fifth after two rounds of the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, played Monday at the 6,729-yard, par-72 Fort Washington Country Club.
Senior Derek Sipe had rounds of 73-69 and was tied for 21st at 2-under 142, while freshman Isaiah Telles got to 2-under with consecutive rounds of 71. Freshman Jack Dukeminer was two shots back after rounds of 71-73 left him tied for 31st. Senior Joey Benedetti was tied for 37th at 1-over 145 following rounds of 73-72.
The Ducks were 14 shots back of defending champion San Diego State. The Aztecs were at 24-under 552, and led Texas by six strokes. California was third at 565, while Texas Christian was fourth at 570.
Oregon was fifth at 5-under 571, one stroke better than Nevada and five ahead of Portland and Boise State.
Issei Suenaga of Long Beach State, who is competing as an individual, shot consecutive rounds of 67-67 to take the overnight individual lead at 10-under 134. San Diego State's David Palm was two shots back in second.
The final round will be played Tuesday morning.
