Dukeminier Leads Oregon at ASU Thunderbird

TEMPE, Ariz. ? Freshman Jack Dukeminier shot a 2-under 69 Friday to lead Oregon to a tie for sixth place with Baylor following the first round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational being played at the par-71, 7,057-yard Karsten Golf Course.
Dukeminier, from Eugene, Ore., had four birdies on the front nine and six overall. He was three strokes back of co-leaders Braxton Marquez of Arizona State and Kyle Nielsen of New Mexico, who both shot 5-under 66's.
As a team, Oregon shot a 7-over 291 and was 12 shots behind first round leaders Arizona State, and ASU's B team. The two Sun Devil squads each shot 5-under 279. Oregon is the defending champion of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
Colorado State was third at 280, with Denver (285) and No. 17 Texas A&M (287) just ahead of the Ducks and Baylor. Oregon was leading several regional and national foes, including UC Irvine, New Mexico and Pacific all tied for eighth at 292, Oklahoma 11th at 293 and California and Arizona tied for 12th at 295.
In addition to Dukeminer, senior Derek Sipe shot an even par 71 for the Ducks and was tied for 18th, while senior Joey Benedetti tied for 31st at 3-over 74.
