Ducks Finish Sixth at ASU Thunderbird

TEMPE, Ariz. ? Freshmen Jack Dukeminier shot a 1-over 73 Sunday as Oregon finished sixth at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational played at the par-71, 7,057-yard Karsten Golf Course.
Arizona State carded a 1-over 285 to win the tournament by nine strokes over ASU's "B" team. No. 17 Texas A&M and Colorado State were third at 859, followed by Denver (860), Oregon (867), Baylor (872), San Diego State (876) and California (877).
Espen Kofstad of Denver came from six strokes back to overtake New Mexico's Kyle Nielsen for medalist honors. Kofstad fired a 3-under 68 Sunday to finish at 3-under 210 for the tournament. Nielsen struggled with a final round 78 and finished tied for ninth at 1-over 214 with Dukeminier and three others.
Dukeminier, from Eugene, Ore., recorded his third straight top-20 finish as well as his third top-10 showing of the 2007-08 season.
Oregon also got a final round 73 from senior Joey Benedetti, who tied for 23rd at 4-over 217.
The Ducks return to action next weekend at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford.
