Telles Tied for Eighth at Pac-10 Championships

FAIRFAX, Calif. ? Isaiah Telles is beginning to take to the Bay Area.
The freshman from Tualatin, Ore., shot rounds of 67-73 Monday and was tied for eighth at 2-under 140 following the first day of the 49th annual Pac-10 men's golf championships, being played at the par-71, 6,686 yard Meadow Club. Telles' opening round 67 matched his season low, shot at the Meadow Club during the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in October.
Telles helped Oregon stand eighth after 36 holes at 12-over 722, but only 15 strokes separated first-place Stanford, and the Ducks.
The Cardinal led the tightly-bunched field at 3-under 707. Host California was second at 708 with UCLA a stroke back in third at 709. USC was fourth at 712 with Arizona fifth at 714 and Arizona State sixth at 715.
The Oregon schools were next, with the Beavers seventh at 720 and then the Ducks. Washington (724) and Washington State (749) rounded out the field.
The individual race mirrored the team race with four players -- UCLA's Kevin Chappell, Washington's Tze Huang Choo, Stanford's Rob Grube and Arizona's Creighton Honeck -- all tied at 4-under 138.
For Oregon, in addition to Telles, senior Derek Sipe was tied for 20th at 1-over 143 and senior Joey Benedetti was tied for 33rd at 4-over 146.
