Miernicki?s Ace Leads Ducks at Cal

FAIRFAX, Calif. – Daniel Miernicki's second round hole-in-one highlighted Oregon's first day at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, played Monday at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club.
The Ducks stood in second place at 18-under 550, five shots behind tournament leader California. The final round will be played Tuesday morning.
Colorado was third at 555, No. 8 Oregon State was fourth at 556, Fresno State was fifth at 557 and San Diego State was sixth at 559. No. 21 Colorado State was tied for ninth with New Mexico at 568.
After shooting a 67 in the morning, Miernicki aced the eighth hole on the way to carding a 71 Monday afternoon that left him at four-under 138 overall and tied for 12th place overall.
Sophomore Andrew Vijarro had rounds of 66-69 to lead Oregon at 7-under 135. The Bend, Ore., native set a career low in the first round with his 66 and was tied for third, three strokes back of tournament leader Stephen Hale of California, who shot a tournament low 64 in the second round.
Junior Isaiah Telles was tied for eighth at 137 after rounds of 68-69.
Oregon shot a blazing 17-under 267 in the opening round.
All five Ducks recorded first rounds in the 60s, including 66s by Vijarro and sophomore Eugene Wong. Wong's 66 included an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, as well as six birdies.
Miernicki matched his career best with a 67, Telles checked in with a 68 and sophomore John Paton matched his career-low with a 69. Each Oregon golfer recorded at least five birdies Monday morning.
