UO v. Western Oregon
109-65
Eugene, Ore.
11/08/2009
Head Coach Paul Westhead
On the game:
“My overall feeling was pretty good. I take this as a learning experience. We are still working on finding out what we had accomplished so far and what we still need to work on. I saw some individual improvement since Tuesday. We will need this whole week to work on some things. In pressing and running system that we are trying to implement we are going to need a few games to really get sharp. Spacing has got to get better. The reads aren't automatic yet. They all need to play at a pace where they could score 109 points in every game. I am looking forward to the season opener.”
On defense:
“Our defensive coverage was a still a little disorganized. We were late to some steals. But that's something that will get better as soon as we play actual games.”
On offense:
“Offensively I don't think we are sharp yet either. We were not reading the passes well. At least two games will help us close those gaps.”
On Nicole Canepa:
“Canepa played well and she impressed me in both exhibition games. I hope she'll get to play more key minutes and help us on the court a lot this season.”
On Taylor Lilley:
“Taylor shot the ball well. This game was really important for her. She's a little on the shelf since she hasn't been practicing with us recently.”
On Nia Jackson:
“Nia Jackson is making things happen. She'll be a threat this season.”
#11 Amanda Johnson
On the game:
“I think we came out as a team in the second half. We weren't too satisfied with the way we played in the first half. “
On her performance:
“I am happy because I got some easy baskets today. I know that in the season we have to play a solid defense. We had two scrimmages between ourselves before this game and I know that we'll continue to improve.”
On the tactic:
“The coach wants us to be aggressive and work on our communication. We need to be on the same page as a team to be competitive and successful.”
