DALY CITY, Calif. - The Oregon stunts and gymnastics team was victorious in its first ever meet at the Slam City Jamz competition.
The Ducks scored a 284.9 (93.7%) to defeat a Bay Area college all-star gym squad. Their competition scored 264.6 (85.2%) points.
"We were very good for our first meet," said head coach Felecia Mulkey. "We weren't perfect and we had some bobbles but nothing failed. With the style and difficulty level we compete at the crowd really got behind us and it was great to win our first time out."
The Slam City Jamz competition was held at the Cow Palace in Daly City, Calif.
Oregon used the experience it gained from a pair of exhibitions (at Springfield HS and a women's basketbal game) to land each of their stunts and tumbling passes on Saturday afternoon.
"I was really proud of our tumbling especially," Mulkey added. "Our routine will continue to get more and more difficult as the season goes and we will need to get better and better but I'm happy with this team after our first meet.
Oregon's next competition will be on Jan. 16, 2010 when the Ducks compete at the Pac-10 Apple Cup Regional Championships at Tacoma, Wash. Mulkey's squad will also have another exhibition at the Oregon men's basketball Civil War game on Jan. 9.
