Bristow Leads No. 29 UO to Fourth in UNLV Final Round

LAS VEGAS ? In the final round of the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational Wednesday, the No. 29 University of Oregon women's golf team fired a 283 final round ? the second-lowest score among the field's 42 rounds ? and tied for fourth overall.
On the par 72, 6,234-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club course, Oregon (311-301-283) had four players shoot scores of par 72 or better Wednesday, and was led by senior Cathryn Bristow (fifth, 75-75-68-218) whose 4-under final round 68 tied the fourth-best score in school history.
Bristow shot scores of par or better on 16 of Wednesday's 18 holes, thanks to birdies on the sixth, 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 17th holes, with her only bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes.
Wednesday's placing was her eighth top-five finish in 36 collegiate tournaments for UO ? a smattering that included a win in the same UNLV-hosted event in '08 and featured a school tourney scoring record (69-69-70-208) on the same course. The Huapai, New Zealand native also scored a pair of wins as a freshman in the OSU Invitational and Illini Spring Classic to go along with another pair of runner-up finishes as a junior.
Altogether, Bristow has led UO in 39 times in 102 career rounds, and the tourney was the 15th time that she has paced UO in the final standings of a collegiate tourney.
Sophomore Monika Graf followed two strokes back Wednesday with her two-shot collegiate best (70) and first under-par round en route to a tie for 20th place overall (79-75-70-224).
The East Wenatchee, Wash., native shot four birdies on the front nine on the first, fifth, sixth and seventh holes, with her fifth and final birdie on the 11th hole. She logged par scores on 10 holes, and penciled in bogeys only on the fourth, 16th and 18th holes.
In the overall standings, sophomore Kendra Little (77-77-73) and freshman Ashley Edwards (80-74-73) followed in a tie for 29th overall (227).
Junior Felicia Eastick also posted her best round of the tourney with her par score Wednesday (46th, 82-77-72-231) ? not to mention a three-shot season best - and ended tied in the same overall position as junior Kate Hildahl (46th-t, 78-82-71-231) who carded the second-lowest round of her career Wednesday (78-82-71-231).
Overall, No. 40 UNLV won the event and held on to its two-stroke margin entering the day (312-283-289-884) over No. 56 Texas Tech (second, 306-291-289-886), and No. 8 Georgia followed in third place (312-292-290-894).
In the individual standings, the Georgia pair of Mallory Hetzel (75-71-68) and Marta Silva (70-74-70) tied for the win at 214, and were followed by Washington's Anya Alvarez (third, 79-69-67-215) and UNLV's Natasha Krishna (fourth, 77-69-70-216).

UO entered the day in fifth place, and the Duck player rankings with a round remaining follow - Bristow (13th-t), Edwards (31st-t), Graf (31st-t), Little (31st-t), Eastick (54th-t) and Hildahl (61st-t).
In the first round Monday, UO was tied for third, and featured three players in the top 25 overall - Bristow (third-t, 75), Little (11th-t) and Graf (25th-t) - and its other first-day results included Edwards (32nd-t, 80), Eastick (48th-t) and Hildahl (19th-t).
Looking ahead, UO returns to action in two weeks in its lone home event, the Duck Invitational, at Shadow Hills Country north of Eugene, Monday-Tuesday, March 23-24.
