Oregon v.
Portland 8-12
04/14/2009
Eugene, Ore.
Head Coach
George Horton:
On
the game:
“It
was a difficult game for us after losing to USC. Every guy we played today did
some good and some bad stuff. What's frustrating to me is that every game it is
all the same old stuff and mistakes that we make. Even I get confused because
some of my players have already shown that they are trying too hard. We
hesitated too much on the field. We had a few good innings, but at the end we
went back to the same mistakes. That's when I get angry and disappointed. I completely
understand that we can't win every game. But we've played more than 30 games already, so
we are not that young anymore. What I can't live with is that I feel like these
losses aren't hurting them enough.”
On
the leadership council:
“We
just created the leadership council after we came back from LA. We hope this
will help our team. Sometimes it is easier to accept criticism from a peer than
from a coach. They know their personalities well enough.”
On
Portland:
“Their
game was organized and their players were making right decisions. We have lost
this season to teams that are not superior to us. We should not be losing to
teams with an even amount of talent.”
#30 Caleb Tommasini:
On
the loss:
“We
definitely needed to hit the ball better. We are feeling down and disappointed
as a team. There is no excuse for losing these three games to Portland. I think
we needed to be more focused on pitching. We had a few good innings when we
came out and played well, and then we just let it go again.”
On
the next game:
“Going
to Cal will be good for us. We really have to learn from previous games and
prove that we are a good team.”
#1 Danny Pulfer
On
the game:
“It's
hard to believe how big the number of the hits was, and we still lost this
game. No one seemed to have a solution. We gave up the hit. You can't play a
game like that.”
On
Portland:
“I
don't think we gave them as much credit as we should have. They have an
experienced team and beat us three times this season. I don't think any of us
expected that. We need to watch out for them next year.”
On
the next game:
“I
am starving for a win. If I could and the weather let me, I would go out there
right now and play another nine innings. We have much to prove later this week.”
