DALY CITY, Calif. -- Freshman Eugene Wong shot a career-low 65 as Oregon rolled to is second straight bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships with a second-place finish at the NCAA West Regional, which concluded Saturday at the par-72, 6,849-yard Lake Merced Golf Club.
Arizona State wrapped up the title by shooting a 14-under 274 on Saturday. The Sun Devils finished at 36-under 828.
Oregon was nearly ASU's equal, closing with an 11-under 277 to finish at 27-under 828. Texas A&M was third at 840, with surprising San Diego fourth at 849 and USC fifth at 853.
The top five teams from Lake Merced advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-30 in Toledo, Ohio.
Just missing a trip to the national championships was New Mexico, who finished at 854. San Diego State was seventh at 857, San Francisco was eighth at 863, Colorado was ninth at 864 and Oregon State finished 10th at 868.
ASU's Jesper Kennegard was the individual medalist at 12-under 204. His final round 70 was just enough to edge Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M, who shot a course record 64 on Saturday and finished at 205. ASU teammates Knut Borsheim and Chan Kim tied for third at 207.
Wong's 65 pushed him to a tie for fifth place at 8-under 208. He eagled both the par-5 sixth and ninth holes, and also had three birdies on his back nine Saturday.
The North Vancouver, B.C., native became just the 10th Oregon golfer to shot 65 or better, and just the fifth to do it in the final round.
Freshman Daniel Miernicki continued his solid play with a 69 that left him tied for seventh at 7-under 209.
Sophomore Isaiah Telles from Tualatin, Ore., tied for 10th at 210 after a final round 71.
For the first time in 10 years, Oregon has now advanced to the NCAA championships in back-to-back years. The Ducks last accomplished that in 1998 and 1999, whose teams were led by PGA Tour professional Ben Crane.
Oregon also advanced with a squad consisting of three freshmen and two sophomores for the second straight year.
