Post-game Quotes
Head Coach George Horton
On the loss and pitching:
“It's been the story of our team. We play well, then we fall behind, and lose. I think that our warm-up pitches need to be more game-like. Today, again, it was all emotional ? kind of like what happens to our hitters. I don't know if they are being too careful or what the problem is. I was disappointed and our game was getting worse and worse. We had two opportunities today that could have made a difference on the scoreboard, but we didn't execute them right.”
On the team attitude:
“They responded to me more professionally and positively ? like grown college players. I thought it was one of the better Sunday attitudes we have had so far. I am trying to get solutions. They need my help and support too.”
On the team:
“We don't want to be an average team. We need to be more consistent in our play. We are pretty fragile. I have tried all I have known so far to help us mentally. The confidence is up to them. It's my responsibility to go through this and deal with them. Right now we have three more series to go. We need to get better at a catching position, hitting, and our leadership. We need tough guys.”
#14 Darrell Hunter
On the loss:
“It is rough. No one likes losing. We are trying to stay focused and positive. The coach is frustrated, and I am not going to lie, it is understandable. He is trying to find anything that would work for us. Even if we do something right, sometimes we still don't win. We tried to win the series today and unfortunately it didn't happen.”
On the season:
“The season has flown by. We are young, but we don't want to use it as an excuse. Being young doesn't mean we can't win. We are going to try to win the games we have left.”
#17 Mitch Karraker
On pitching:
“We had a solid pitching the whole year, and today we struggled. Offensively ? we weren't spectacular today.”
On the team attitude:
“It is tough to come back mentally. We are trying to stay positive, even though there is a lot of negative energy coming. The coach has gone through everything to help us, but it is really on us. We are the ones on the field. I do see the progress and we are getting better mentally. Physically ? we still have much to work on.”
On the loss:
“It has been hard, but we try to show the Pac-10 and the country that we can play the ball. All of us come from good and winning programs and we are not used to losing. It is hard to handle, but this is why staying positive is so important. We know and trust that we have the ability to win games. Our problem is that if we don't score first or start falling behind ? we tend to lose games. We need to learn how to overcome that.”
