No. 36 UO Climbs to 12th in Regional Day 2

TEMPE, Ariz. ? With its fourth straight sub-300 round of the season, the No. 36 University of Oregon women's golfers stood 12th overall (299-298-597) after Friday's second round of the NCAA West Regional, hosted by Arizona State University on the 6,230-yard Karsten Golf Course.
Sophomore Kendra Little paced UO Friday with her even-par 72? one of three Ducks that shot 75 or better ? and is tied with senior Cathryn Bristow for 26th overall as the latter shot a 74 Friday. UO's remaining second-round scorers included freshman Ashley Edwards (72d, 79-75-154) and junior Felicia Eastick (57th-t, 74-77-151). The Ducks' other entrant was junior Kate Hildahl (103rd-t, 84-82-166).
Little paced UO for the seventh time in her last 11 rounds and 14th time overall in 29 rounds this season. The Eugene native carded three birdies on the back nine on the par-4 13th, par-5 14th and par-3 16th holes in a stretch of 13 holes from the 6th-18th holes where she didn't record a bogey. In the first five holes on the course, she had three par scores, and a double-bogey on the par-4 third and a single bogey on the par-5 fifth hole.
Team-wise for UO, the Ducks claimed their 14th sub-300 score in 29 rounds in 2008-09, including the fall. UO entered the day in a six-way tie for 13th place with Thursday's opening round score of 299.
In the overall team standings, No. 1 Arizona State extended its lead another stroke (273-283-556), and was followed by No. 3 USC (second, 289-283-572) and No. 25 UC Irvine (third, 289-284-573).
Other teams in the top 10 include No. 40 Texas (fourth, 288-290-578), No. 36 TCU (fifth, 289-293-582), No. 8 LSU (sixth, 295-288-583), No. 16 Arkansas (seventh-tie, 289-296-585), No. 39 Texas A&M (seventh-tie, 288-297-585), No. 20 Arizona (ninth-tie, 288-300-588) and No. 21 California (ninth-tie, 291-297-588).
The rest of the 21-team field included No. 13 Pepperdine (11th, 294-300-594), No. 36 Oregon (12th, 299-298-597), No. 29 San Francisco (13th, 294-304-598), No. 17 San Jose State (14th, 299-305-604), Northern Arizona (15th-tie, 299-309-608), No. 54 Baylor (15th-t, 299-309-608), No. 47 Long Beach State (17th, 299-310-609), No. 31 UNLV (18th, 299-313-612), No. 44 Colorado (19th-t, 309-308-617), No. 63 Oral Roberts (19th-t, 312-305-617) and No. 104 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (21st, 315-303-618).
On the individual leaderboard, Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda climbed a postition into the lead (67-68-135), and held a one-stroke edge on first-day leader Belen Mozo of USC (second-tie, 66-70-136) and fellow first-day runner-up Jane Chin of UC Irvine (second-tie, 67-69-136).

The top eight teams from the final standings from Saturday's NCAA Regional final results advance to the NCAA Championships, hosted by Georgetown University, Tuesday-Friday, May 19-22 at Caves Valley Country Club in Owings Mills, Md.
Friday continued UO's 14th regional appearance with its highest finish in 1995 (fourth, 898). Among its eight other top-10 placings, Oregon took sixth in '97 (885), seventh in '00 (895), eighth in '04 (913), ninth in '93 (885) and '01 (923), and 10th in '94 (912), '98 (912) and '05 (913).
