Oregon - UCLA postgame quotes
January 28, 2010
-----------------------------
Oregon Head Coach Ernie Kent
“Five games ago we were in a great groove and a great rhythm. We did not handle the success well and it sent us into a little bit of a tailspin.”
“This team has done an incredible job of letting us coach and makes changes both offensively and defensively. They have done a nice job of responding.”
“It is important to handle the success between now and Saturday.”
On the players: “Malcolm played so well, with seven seconds left we were on the same wavelength. TP unfortunately takes a lot of the heat, but he was the reason we got back in the game. There were a lot of stars in the game. Matt Humphrey has worked his way back. He was a great spark in the game on both ends of the floor.”
“I have talked to them a lot this week about the tradition of this building and The Pit. We brought the Pit Crew into the locker room before the game and they did an outstanding job getting the team out the door with a tremendous amount of energy.”
“I think it is very important that at this game against UCLA, Bill Walton and Larry Holliday were here.”
“The zone allowed us to turn up the intensity and be a little bit more reckless…It allowed us to do some things better.”
-------------------------------
Matt Humphrey - So., G
“This was a wake-up call. We put the work in and got the job done tonight.
On players stepping up during overtime: “It was the whole team period. When you get an opportunity you take it. It was a team effort.”
On Mac Court: “Mac Court is home and we should have pride for this building. We're closing it out and we want to close it out right. Pride was definitely in our hearts tonight.”
On the Pit Crew: “The fans have done so much for this city. We should pay tribute to them and come out with wins, at least at home.”
On defense: “We should be able to execute whatever defense the coach plans for us.”
-------------------------------
Tajuan Porter - Sr., G
“It's about being smart. We're conditioned and need to make big plays down the stretch. We need to come out Saturday with the same intensity.”
“It was a team effort. Malcolm Armstead made some unbelievable passes and Matt Humphrey had a great game. We fed off of the crowd.”
On Matt Humphrey: “He is talented. He got his chance and stepped up big. With him in the mix there are more offensive threats out there.”
On USC game coming up: “We need to play with the same intensity and play hard with urgency and pride and we will be good.”
-------------------------------
UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland
On the loss: “It is a disappointing loss. We did a good job to get off to a great start. We had a 13 point lead at one point. “
“It is tough to ask our guys to play as many minutes as they played.”
“In the zone we have to get better at rebounding the ball.”
“We could not close out the 1st half, and when they cut it to one, we only had a three point lead at half. When you play against the zone, you are forced to take outside shots. Our goal is to keep getting the ball inside.”
On UO's play: “They did a good job. Their defense was hard to attack.”
“We got hurt by their block outs.I bet I will count at least 13 offensive rebounds.”
“Humphrey came in and really hurt us. He had 15 big points.”
On effort: “I am proud of their effort and the way we fought back. What we will learn from this game is just to keep fighting and keep our heads up. We need to move forward and get ready for OSU; they are well coached.”
