Oregon, Cal State Bakersfield Postgame Quotes
11/28/10 | Women's Basketball
Cal State Bakersfield 82, Oregon 78
November 27, 2010
Eugene, Ore.
Head Coach Paul Westhead
On the game:
It was a game played well enough to win it, but we didnt sustain enough with our defense in the last eight minutes. I give credit to Cal State Bakersfield and their tenacious plays; they made shots and free throws when they needed to.
On the team:
I can only say we committed unnecessary fouls. We should have let the clock run and have them work for their shots, but we fouled, which is the worst-case scenario when you have the lead. The team and Amanda Johnson made shots, we made steals, but we struggled as a team to pull that off for the whole 40 minutes. We haven't been a fluid shot making group, which puts pressure on our defense, free throws and on making less mistakes.
On Amanda Johnson and Nia Jackson:
Anytime you have a two-man operation it puts pressure on them (Nia and Amanda) and its easy to defend. Amanda plays her heart out every game; she generates offense when we need it. I'm happy with her performance.
Juniorforward Amanda Johnson
On the team:
Collectively we can take it as a learning experience; we just have to take it for what it is and learn for tomorrow.
On the game:
There were a couple switches of momentum throughout the game. There are certain things to do to maintain the lead, but instead we turned the ball over and they hit a couple 3-point shots and got their momentum back.
On what's next:
We have to evaluate what we did right and wrong, so we can learn from this for next time. I got nervous under pressure at the end and I too have to take this in stride, so I can improve for next time.
