Oregon - Cal Postgame Quotes
Feb. 20, 2010
----------------------------
Oregon Head Coach Ernie Kent
On the game: “We've finished another ball game where we've left about 25 points on the court in missing shoots.”
“We leave a lot of basketball plays on the floor”
“We didn't put enough pressure on them in the first 4 minutes in the second half.”
“We played well defensively against a great shooting team in Cal.”
“Max Zhang was tough for us and he was playing hard, and the answer would have been Mike (Dunigan)
On not scoring: “You can't go through stretches of not scoring for 10 minutes, we just have struggled scoring.”
“Malcolm Armstead and Tajuan Porter didn't shoot very well for us today.”
On Tajuan Porter: “My heart goes out for him right now, he's on track and doing everything right for his senior year, but he's just been struggling and we had to sit him.”
“We had to sit him and get us bigger, which seemed to work for our defense.”
On what's next: “We want momentum going into the Pac-10 tournament.”
“As we go on the road, I like where we're heading defensively, but we need Mike (Dunigan) back and we need Malcolm to get back on his game.”
On E.J. Singler: “He is what every team needs on a team. He's a glue guy. He's always poised, and has a great feel for the game.”
“He has great mentality and work ethic and for a freshman has really responded well to what we've asked him to do.”
---------------------------------------------
Jeremy Jacob - So., F
On the game: “Max Zhang and missing the threes definitely hurt our team.”
“We keep finding ourselves in a scoring drought, and we weren't scoring.”
“With Mike (Dunigan) out we had to play small ball so when the big guy (Max Zhang) came in, it hurt us.”
What's next: “It's pretty frustrating to keep losing, but the Pac-10 tournament is soon and everyone starts out 0-0 and is fighting for a spot in the NCAA tournament berth.”
On the team: “The team is definitely growing.”
“We have a chip on our shoulder going into next week because we're already beaten them (UCLA, USC). So we have to come out hard against them, we just have to finish well.”
-------------------------------------------------
E.J. Singler - Fr., F
On the game: “I saw more scoring opportunities in the first half. In the 2nd half we wanted to give the ball to Jeremy Jacob more.”
“We wanted to make the easy two's and give it to Jeremy Jacob because he's been playing well.”
“The threes have been trouble for us, so we wanted to make the easy two's.”
On Cal: “Max was their spark; we didn't have a stop for him.”
On words exchanged with Jorge Gutierrez: “Nothing really happened, he shrugged my shoulder and I wasn't having it.”
On the team: “We have good players, we just need to get the ball in the hole and see who's hot.”
“We want to learn from our losses and move on and get better.”
--------------------------------------------
California Head Coach – Mike Montgomery
“Oregon's zone covered our big guys pretty well, but when Max (Zhang) came in his height really helped us, he was able to catch the ball high in that tough zone to make some baskets and draw some fouls.”
“I was really impressed with our defense the first-half. Our defense helped us stay in the game when our shooting wasn't hot.”
“We shot very poorly the first-half, I keep telling my guys that there is more ways to help us win than just making baskets.”
“Oregon came out with pressure the second half, we don't have anyone that can blow by them, so we were cautions with the ball, but we didn't have any forced turnovers.”
