Oregon Drops Quarterfinal Game to Cal

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Senior guard Tajuan Porter scored a game-high 26 points and set new Pac-10 Conference records for career 3-pointers made and attempted in the process, but it wasn't enough as top-seeded California defeated the University of Oregon men's basketball team 90-74 in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Conference Tournament on Thursday.
Oregon had three players score in double figures, led by Porter who hit 8-of-22 from the floor. Junior forward LeKendric Longmire added 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Malcolm Armstead finished with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
The Ducks made 35.8 percent of their field goals (24-of-67), while hitting on 47.4 percent of their 3-pointers (9-of-19). Oregon hit 17-of-21 from the free throw line for 81.0 percent. California shot a red-hot 54.1 percent from the field (33-of-61) and 55.0 percent of the 3-point attempts (11-of-20). The Golden Bears hit 76.5 percent of their free throws (13-of-17).
Jerome Randle scored 22 points without missing a shot in the first half. Patrick Christopher had 21 points and five assists for the Golden Bears (22-9), who followed up their first outright conference title in a half-century by sending home the Ducks (16-16).
Randle went 8 for 8 with four 3-pointers in the first half, staking Cal to a 15-point lead. Jamal Boykin then scored all 15 of his points in the second half to finish the eighth-seeded Ducks, who were taken to overtime by Washington State in their first-round game Wednesday night.

Porter breaks Pac-10 Conference 3-point records
- Senior guard Tajuan Porter finished 4-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc against Cal, in the process breaking the Pac-10 Conference record for most 3-pointers in a career with 345 (in 126 games). He moved passed the previous record-holder Salim Stoudamire who made 342 (from 2002-05). Porter also broke the conference record for 3-pointers attempted over a career (896). The previous mark was set by Arizona State's Stevin Smith (891, 1991-94).
Golden Bears lights-out in the first half
- California's 69.2 percent shooting from behind the 3-point arc over the first 20 minutes was a season-best for an Oregon opponent this season.
- Jerome Randle's 22 first-half points were the most of any opposing player this season. The previous high was 21 points from his teammate Patrick Christopher (at Berkeley, Calif. - Jan. 21, 2010).
Porter career numbers update
- Porter remains fifth in school history with 1,803 points, eighth at Oregon for career field goals made (584) and ninth all-time with 103 career steals.
Porter goes for 20 again
- Porter hit the 20-point mark for the 31st time of his career on Thursday. It was also the 86th time of his career that he scored in double-figures (15th of the season and sixth consecutive game).
Longmire leads Ducks in rebounding
- Junior forward LeKendric Longmire had seven rebounds in the loss to Cal, the second time in the last three games that he's led Oregon in rebounding (six times that Longmire has led or tied for the team-high this season).
Armstead improves on single-season steals record
- With one steal against Cal on Thursday, sophomore guard Malcolm Armstead moved his school-record single-season total to 65 (in 32 games). It marked the 10th consecutive game that Armstead had at least one steal. He broke the school mark on Wednesday night with three steals against Washington State in the opening round of the tourney. The previous record of 63 was held by Terrell Brandon, Fred Jones and Luke Ridnour who held a three-way tie.
