No. 15 Cardinal Shakes Off Early Duck Lead, Wins 9-4

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 20 University of Oregon softball team (33-17, 8-11) staked an early 4-0 lead before No. 15 Stanford (34-17, 6-13) came back to win 9-4 Thursday night at the Smith Family Stadium.

Freshman left fielder Allie Burger opened the game with a single, and after a pair of outs sophomore Kelsey Chambers doubled to left field to knock in UO's first run. Junior Ashley Kivett followed with a walk, and freshman Kaylan Howard added a three-run homer.

The Cardinal answered with three runs in the second inning after a two-run bases-loaded single and a sacrifice fly. In the third, Stanford tacked on four more runs on a passed ball that scored a run, and a three-run double.

Stanford added a run in the fifth when a runner scored from third base on an infield error, and another run in the sixth on a homer by Rosey Neill.

At the plate for Oregon, six batters had single hits - Howard (1-for-2, 3 RBI), Burger (1-for-4), Bryant (1-for-4), Chambers (1-for-3, 1 RBI), freshman pitcher Jessica Moore (1-for-2) and senior pinch-hitter Carlyn Re (1-for-1).

On the mound, Moore started the game for UO and logged two strikeouts, one walk, and five hits, and all three of her runs allowed were earned.

Sophomore Mikayla Endicott (3-2) relieved her and got the final out of the second inning and first out of the third - both via strikeouts - and and allowed one hit, three walks, and all three of her runs allowed were earned.

Junior Brittany Rumfelt pitched the final 3.2 innings, struck out two, walked two, yielded two hits, and two of her three runs allowed were earned.

Cardinal pitcher Ashley Chinn (9-8) pitched the complete game, struck out seven, walked one, allowed six hits, and all four of her runs allowed were earned.
