January 23, 2011- Matthew Knight Arena
Head Coach Paul Westhead
On winning the first game at Matt Arena:
"I couldn't be more proud that we closed Mac Court with a win and opened Matt Arena with a win. The first win is the best win. It was a great signature game, it was much better with the win. I can't believe we had so many people come out and encourage us."
On the game:
"The pace in the first half was not to our liking, we didn't create enough fast spin to get them off kilter."
On Nia Jackson's performance:
"Nia is a big play performer, she's best at the end of things, at the end of this half and at the end of games. We rely on her to bring it home, she played great tonight."
On Kristi Fallin:
"Kristi played great, she buried those jump shots. We knew they were a zone team, which meant high on our list were Kristi and Ashley (Buis). We rotated them both, but Kristi kept making shots for us, so we stuck with her."
On the rebounding disparity:
"I'm always concerned about our rebounding disparity; it's always been our nemesis. We have a few days to improve; we're always in pursuit of getting better at it."
On the atmosphere at Matthew Knight Arena:
"They (the team) handled it well, I was frivolous in practice yesterday, and I was being funny and joking around with them. But then today I was mundane with my speech and just let them play. This place is a god send, it's incredible, it puts thrills up and down you."
Junior Guard Nia Jackson:
On the atmosphere:
"It was so cool; I caught myself screaming like a fan."
On the game:
"There was a lot of emphasis on this game; we had a lot of jitters in the beginning. We had to gain our composure in the second half and settle down and we did. At halftime we knew we couldn't think the game was over just because we were ahead, we had to play hard because we knew they would come out tough."
