Oregon vs. Cal Post game Quotes
01/29/11 | Women's Basketball
January 29,2011 - Matthew Knight Arena
Head Coach Paul Westhead
On game:
“This was two different games. The first half we were competitive, we
shot the ball well, Amanda Johnson was stroking outside shots, and we
had a pretty good spread of offense. The second half we didn't shoot the
ball. We had not three-point baskets. Offense was in a stuck gear, and
that exposed us inside, which gave us double trouble. I guess our
players ran out of high energy, and Cal stayed on course. We need to
keep it revved up. It was a tough game. We need to get on the road now
and get some wins.”
On #4 Kristi Fallen:
“She wasn't scoring, but she has a presence that this team needs. We
need her going forward. She is on crutches. It is her ankle, I know that
much. We'll know more in awhile. She came down on one of the Cal
players and rolled her ankle.”
On second chance points:
“We know it and live it. We worked on it yesterday in practice and had a
decent effort, but Cal had a relentless effort. They are really good at
rebounding.”
On Deanna Weaver:
“She represents the freshman class. We want to get Ariel Thomas,
Danielle Love more minutes. In these next nine games we will have
seasoned freshman ready to play. It is an important time for them.
Deanna Weaver is a key figure in that.”
On league:
"The league is tough, and nothing is easy."
Junior Forward Amanda Johnson
On second half:
“They (Cal) wanted it more. They had more fight than we did.”
On turning point of Kristi Fallin leaving:
“Not really. At that point, there was a huge momentum shift. The turnover's got our heads down, and we didn't climb out of that.”
On problem of game:
“Rebounding. We talk to the point where we can't talk about it anymore. It is a continuous problem… I don't remember the last game we out rebounded our opponent.”
“In second chance points, they had 24 we had eight.”
On shooting:
“I have been struggling these past couple weeks, but I have been in the gym, and I felt good today.”
“If you can't make shots, you can't win games. It gives us a spark when we hit big shots. Collectively, not enough people are making shots.”
“We need consistent output from across the board.”
On Cal:
“We acknowledge Cal as a worthwhile opponent, but we knew we had the capacity to get a win. We fell short.”
On game:
“We are collectively frustrated, and individually frustrated. We knew we had the potential to get a win, and it didn't happen.”
Junior Guard Nia Jackson
On competing against opponents:
“We need to do a better job competing and getting after the opponent. We have let teams push and shove us. Coach talks about that fire, and we need more fire in our belly.”
“We have to get rebounds to win games. Rebounding is so important.”
“We didn't play to win today. We should have adjusted.”
On confidence:
“We have to come to every game and say 'you're not going to beat me.' We need to be in attack mode constantly.”
