Oregon vs. Washington State Postgame Quotes
01/07/11 | Women's Basketball
Oregon 77, Washington State 72
January 5, 2011
Head Coach Paul Westhead
On the game:
“We had a discussion earlier in the week about when we're down; we either let it go or pick it back up and play hard. I told my players I was proud we picked it up tonight after being down by 12. We weren't in as much attack mode towards them as we usually are against teams, we felt like we needed to protect our home court a little bit better. Our zone helped us a lot defensively, but I would have liked to see more out of our fast break.”
On Nia Jackson:
“Nia stepped up when we needed her tonight, that's the kind of game she's capable of and that's the kind of game this team needs from her.”
On Nicole Canepa:
“This is the third game in a row that we have gotten quality games out of Nicole. She played great tonight.”
On Danielle Love:
“Although her minutes were slight, Danielle made a nice basket, and covered well on defense, I was pleased with her performance tonight even with only four minutes on the court.”
Mac Court Magic:
“I was thinking how we could win today and I knew it was Mac Court Magic. I hoped it had enough magic for one more. We were going, going and going. We were down by 12 and looked flat, but there was enough magic left to help us win.”
On the last game in Mac Court on Saturday:
“It's a mixed bag for me, I'm still a newcomer, but I love this place and feel at home. I told our team we had to give every ounce of effort for all the men and women that have played here in the 84 years before them. We're in a good situation. All good things have to come to an end and this is it on Saturday.”
On Matthew Knight Arena:
“We are going to a magical place in Matthew Knight Arena. The men and women that will play there in the next few years will have to make magic happen there, magic doesn't just come to you.”
Senior Forward/Center Nicole Canepa
On the game:
“We are utilizing the inside game a lot more lately, and we were very successful inside tonight. Coach talked a lot about coming with a lot of effort and fire tonight and I think we did.”
On using the inside more:
“We weren't using the inside game in the preseason, but we've been making more of an effort to work on all around offense including the inside.”
On being down by 12:
“We didn't give up; we finally got the momentum change to get us going. We fed off one person's effort and then the team effort got better.”
On Saturday being the last game at Mac Court:
“It's my fourth year here, I've been part of the Mac Court tradition for a while so I wanted to come out on top tonight and show our fans and everyone that we love Mac Court and we wanted to give Mac a win.
