Freshman Molly Grabill also impressed by winning the women's B race.
"It was a great opening performance by Luke and Jordan," said associate head coach Andy Powell. "And a good showing by Molly Grabill winning the B section."
Hasay covered the 6,000 meter race at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in 20:01.9 to finish second to defending NCAA champion Shelia Reid of Villanova, who won in a course-record 19:59.4. The junior from Arroyo Grande, Calif., was making her 2011 season debut for the Ducks on Friday.
Hasay and Reid, arguably the top two collegiate women's distance stars in the nation, waged another entertaining skirmish in their latest head-to-head meeting.
Both were among the leaders from the outset, and halfway through the race, the lead pack consisted of North Carolina's Kendra Schaaf, Morgan Haws of Brigham Young, Kathy Kroeger of Stanford and Reid and Hasay.
At the 4,000 meter mark, Hasay and Reid had pulled clear of the field, setting up the finish that nearly mirrored the 2010 NCAA Championships, when Reid was first and Hasay third.
Deborah Maier of California was third on Friday in 20:07.1, Alex Banfich of Princeton was fourth in 20:10.1 and Haws was fifth in 20:11.7.
From the team standpoint, Washington led at 3,000 meters, followed by Villanova, Oregon, Arizona and Stanford.
The 24th-ranked Huskies went on to place four runners in the top 50 to win a high-scoring affair with 199 points. Vanderbilt was second with 211 points, followed by No. 14 Arizona (230), No. 1 Villanova (232) and No. 6 Stanford (256) to round out the top five.
No. 8 Syracuse was sixth with 273 points, with No. 10 California seventh (331), No. 12 Oregon eighth (350) and No. 9 Iowa State and No. 15 Michigan State tied for ninth (362).
The Ducks posted a better finish than 12 ranked teams, including Iowa State, Michigan State, No. 7 New Mexico (375 points), No. 13 North Carolina (454), No. 25 Notre Dame (475), No. 2 Providence (480), No. 23 Iowa (489), No. 22 Florida (506), No. 21 Minnesota (520), No. 27 BYU (539), No. 30 Clemson (559) and No. 28 Princeton (586).
In addition to Hasay, the Ducks counted a 48th-place finish from senior Claire Michel (20:53.8), a 74th-place showing from junior Sarah Penney (21:06.7), a 104th place finish from sophomore Melanie Thompson (21:16.0) and a 122nd-place finish from junior Anne Kesselring (21:24.6), who was also making her season debut.
Grabill then impressed in the B section by winning the race in 21:08.7. She was 14 seconds faster than the runner-up Kyla Chapman, who ran 21:22.3.
For men, Puskedra was solid in his season debut. The senior from Ogden, Utah, covered the 8,000 meter course in 23:42.8 for his sixth straight top-10 finish dating back to last season.
No. 2 Wisconsin finished in a pack, with their scoring runners going 11-12-13-14-16 to win with 66 points. Ryan Collins led the Badgers across the line in 23:45.5, while 2011 Bill Dellinger Invitational runner-up Reed Connor was right behind him. No. 6 BYU was second with 120 points, while No. 4 Stanford took third (125).
The tenth-ranked Ducks finished tied for 14th with No. 27 Texas A&M at 448 points. Oregon finished ahead of six ranked teams, including No. 23 Arizona State (452 points), No. 18 Columbia (475), No. 21 Syracuse (540), No. 16 Georgetown (609), No. 25 New Mexico (629) and No. 28 Florida (710).
Parker Stinson had a good run for the Ducks as the sophomore from Austin, Texas, was 18th in 23:51.5. Freshman Lukas Verzbicas made his Oregon debut on Friday and finished 62nd in 23:35.4.
"Obviously, both teams have some things to work on before the conference meet, but we're pretty confident that we'll see a lot of improvement between now and then," said Powell.
Arizona's Lawi Lalang was the individual winner at 23:10.8.
