KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 12 University of Oregon women's golf team moved up a position into a tie for 13th place Saturday in second-round action of the Mercedes-Benz SEC-Pac-12 Challenge, hosted at the Holston Hills Country Club.
The Ducks (301-300-601) improved a stroke from the first round in the all-star event that features 11 top-15 ranked teams and six more ranked top 30 nationally.
Overall in the team standings, No. 6 Alabama moved into the lead (284-289-573) by five strokes ahead of first-day leader and No. 1 UCLA (second, 281-297-578). No. 2 Auburn followed in third place (296-286-582), and No. 27 Tennessee (fourth, 291-292-583) and No. 7 Vanderbilt (fifth, 296-290-586) rounded out the top five.
On the par-72, 6,447-yard course, UO junior Cheyenne Hickle shot a two-under 70 and tied her career-best round from her freshman season. The Gilbert, Ariz., native now has three rounds of par or better among her five the past week, and six overall this season.
"I didn't strike the ball perfectly today," Hickle said, "but dealt with that by playing smart. I managed to miss only one green and gave myself chances for birdies. I stayed confident over my shots, and hopefully a few more putts will fall Sunday."
As expected, her scorecard proved impressive with three birdies on holes #7, 8 and 16, par scores on 14 holes (#2-6, 9-15, 17-18), and only one bogey (#1).
For comparison's sake on Friday, she penciled in four birdies (#4, 7, 17, 18), seven par scores (#1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15) and seven bogeys (#3, 5, 10-12, 14, 16).
The Ducks also counted scores Saturday from sophomore Raphaela Dyer (48th-tie, 75-75-150), and freshmen Cassy Isagawa (54th-tie, 72-79-151) and Cali Hipp (93rd-tie, 82-76-158), while senior Ashley Edwards (106th-tie, 79-82-161) rounded out the Duck unit.
Other Duck birdie/par counts from Saturday follow: Hipp (5/7), Dyer (3/10), Isagawa (-/11) and Edwards (1/9).
On the individual leaderboard, first-day co-leader Stephanie Meadow of Alabama remained tied for the lead (68-71-139), and was joined by Nathalie Mansson of Tennessee (72-67-139). Milean Savich of Georgia (73-67-140) and Lauren Stratton of Vanderbilt (68-72-140) followed one stroke back in a tie for third place.
