EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team (4-1) will play a neutral-site game against BYU on Saturday afternoon at EnergySolutions Arena (19,911) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tip-time for the Ducks-Cougars contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. (PT).
Oregon leads 12-7 in the all-time series history with BYU. The Ducks won the last meeting between the two schools, a 93-62 home win back on Dec. 5, 1998. A year before that UO defeated BYU 74-67 in Provo. Oregon is 95-26 overall against teams from the West Coast Conference. The Cougars are in their first season with the WCC.
BYU is coached by Dave Rose who is 164-47 overall in his seventh season as mentor. The Cougars received one first-place vote and were predicted to finish third in the WCC's preseason poll (behind Gonzaga and St. Mary's).
Since falling 78-64 on the road against then seventh-ranked Vanderbilt, Oregon has won the last four games and is coming off Tuesday night's 64-59 home victory over UTEP. The Cougars, who have won five of their last six games, defeated Northern Arizona on Wednesday night by a score of 87-52. BYU's losses are to Utah State (69-62) and Wisconsin (73-56).

BALANCED SCORING ATTACK THROUGH FIVE GAMES
In five games this season, Oregon has been led in scoring by four different players. That list includes: Tony Woods (12 points at Vandy), Garrett Sim (17 points vs. Eastern Washington; 20 points at Nebraska), E.J. Singler (21 points vs. SE Missouri State) and Johnathan Loyd (24 points vs. UTEP).
Also, seven different players have reached double-figures in scoring this season. This has been done three times by Singler and Sim, twice by Jacob and fellow senior forward Olu Ashaolu, and once by Loyd, Woods, Tyrone Nared and Brett Kingma.
In addition, three different Ducks have dropped 20 or more points in a game this season (Sim, Singler and Loyd). Through five games a year ago, only one UO player had scored 20+ points in a game (Joevan Catron, three times in the first four games).
On the season, three Ducks average 10+ ppg (Singler 12.0 ppg, Sim 11.6 ppg, Loyd, 10.0 ppg).
BUSY HOME SCHEDULE COMING UP
Saturday against BYU, the Ducks will be playing their third and final non-conference game away from Eugene. Following a short hiatus for finals week, Oregon will host its final six non-conference games (in a 13-day stretch) beginning with Fresno State on Dec. 10. Oregon will play home games against Portland State (Dec. 12), Virginia (Dec. 18), before hosting the three-day Global Sports Hoops Showcase where the Ducks will face North Carolina Central (Dec. 20), Prairie View A&M (Dec. 21) and Stephen F. Austin (Dec. 22).
CORE GROUP OF RETURNERS LEAD THE WAY EARLY ON
UO's core group of returners - seniors Jeremy Jacob, Tyrone Nared and Garrett Sim, junior E.J. Singler and sophomore Johnathan Loyd - have played an integral part in jumping out to a 4-1 record.
Five of UO's top seven scorers are from that group: 1) Singler, 12.0 ppg; 2) Sim, 11.6 ppg; 3) Loyd, 10.0 ppg; 6) Nared, 6.8 ppg; 7) Jacob, 6.6 ppg.
And of the seven best field goal percentages on the team, five are players who started games for UO in 2010-11: 1) Nared, .667; 4) Loyd, .533; 5) Singler, .528; 6) Sim, .485; 7) Jacob, .440.
The top four shooters from behind the 3-point arc are returners: 1) Loyd, .636; 2) Singler, .500; 3) Sim, .471; 4) Nared, .429.
As is the case for free throw shooting percentage: 1) Sim, .900; 2) Singler, .889; 3) Nared, .875; 4) Jacob, .733.
Three of the team's top four rebounders this year include: 1) Nared and Singler, 4.2 rpg; 4) Jacob, 3.6 rpg.
The top three in steals are: 1) Loyd, 1.6 spg; 2) Sim,1.4 spg; 3) Singler, 1.2 spg. And the top three assist men include: 1) Loyd, 4.0 apg; 2) Sim, 3.6 apg; 4) Singler, 2.0 apg.
UO INKS THREE PREP PLAYERS DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD
Dana Altman announced the signing of three prep standouts to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Ducks beginning in 2012-13 are Dominic Artis (Richmond, Calif. / Findlay Prep), Ben Carter (Las Vegas, Nev. / Bishop Gorman HS) and Damyean Dotson (Houston, Texas / Jack Yates High School). It is the second straight season that Altman has signed a strong recruiting class. UO brought in a consensus top 25 recruiting class a year ago according to Scout.com (No. 20), Rivals.com (No. 21) and ESPN.com (No. 23).
Dominic Artis (5-11, 175, G): Will play his senior season at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev. … Played freshman through junior seasons at Salesian High School in Richmond, Calif. … Averaged 14 points and 4.1 assists per game as a junior at SHS … As a freshman in 2009, helped lead SHS to California's Division IV state title … Played AAU basketball for the Oakland Soldiers … Also considered UCLA, California, St. Johns, Florida State, Memphis and Georgia Tech.
Ben Carter (6-8, 215, F): Is entering his senior season at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev. … Helped lead BGHS to a 25-6 overall record as a junior … A member of the BGHS squads that won a state title in his sophomore season (playing alongside current UO player Johnathan Loyd) … Played AAU basketball for the Las Vegas Lakers … Also considered USC, UNLV, San Diego State, Utah and New Mexico.
Damyean Dotson (6-6, 190, G): Is entering his senior season at Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas … Member of JYHS team that was a consensus No. 1 ranked prep team in the nation in 2010 … Helped lead JYHS to back-to-back state titles in freshman and sophomore seasons … Played AAU basketball for Houston Hoops … Also considered Arkansas, Georgetown, Colorado, Texas Tech and Baylor.
DUCKS TABBED FIFTH IN PAC-12 PRESEASON POLL
Oregon was predicted to finish fifth in the 2011 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Preseason Media Poll announced at the league's media day on Oct. 28. UO garnered 282 points in the inaugural poll for the 12-team conference.
UCLA, which received 14 first-place votes, was picked to win the league with a total of 421 points. California earned 405 points and 13 first-place votes to edge-out Arizona (404 points, 11 first-place votes) for second.
Washington earned 355 total points for fourth place. Oregon ranked just in front of No. 6 Stanford (255 points), with USC following at No. 7 after receiving 194 points. Oregon State was picked eighth (188 points), Arizona State ninth (148 points), Colorado and Washington State are tied for 10th (119 points). Utah rounded out in 12th (74 points).
