BANDON, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men's golf team had the lowest round of the day en route to its best tournament finish of the season, placing second at the 16-team Bandon Dunes Championship.
The Ducks closed with a 10-over 298 in the final round of the 54-hole event at the par 72, 6,798-yard Bandon Dunes Course, finishing seven strokes behind champion Washington (+7, 871) at 15-over 879, and two strokes clear of third-place Florida, which began the week ranked No. 4 nationally by www.Golfstat.com.
Oregon placed three golfers in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, led by Andrew Vijarro (68-77-73-218) and Jack Dukeminier (70-73-75-218), who tied for fourth at 2-over. Vijarro, a junior from Bend, was 2-under over his final five holes with birdies at Nos. 14 and 15.
Dukeminier, a senior from Eugene, also carded a pair of birdies over his final five holes, recovering from a stretch of four straight bogeys midway through his round.
Daniel Miernicki (72-74-74-220), playing as UO's No. 1 again this week, tied for tenth at 4-over.
Washington's Charlie Hughes won medalist honors going away. Hughes was the only player in the 91-man field to shoot under par, carding a 6-under 210 despite a final-round 75.
Eugene Wong (73-76-76-225) moved up to tie for 25th after a 4-over 76 Saturday, while Robbie Ziegler (72-76-83-231) slipped into a tie for 41st.
The Ducks are off until March 21-22, when they host the Oregon Ducks Invitational at Eugene Country Club.
