SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The No. 15 University of Oregon softball team (26-4) topped Cal Poly (3-20) by an 8-1 score for its 10th straight win Friday afternoon and cap first-day action in the Mustang Classic.

Oregon struck for single runs in the first, second, third and sixth innings to go along with a four-run fifth that broke the game open.

Senior Brittany Rumfelt (3-0) won her third straight start, struck out five, walked two, allowed three hits, and her run allowed was unearned. Junior Mikayla Endicott worked the final two innings, struck out four, walked one, gave up three hits and no runs.

The Duck offense combined for eight runs or more for the 14th time this year, and its 13 hits was only two off its season high (15) in a win over North Texas.

Mustang starter Camille Patton (1-12) pitched the complete game, struck out seven, walked two, and seven of her eight runs allowed were earned.

UO scored in the first after a single by freshman Courtney Ceo and a pair of errors by the shortstop.

Senior Kaitlin Vitek accounted for the second-inning run with a solo homer to lead off the inning - her fifth of the season and two more than she owned career-wise prior to the season.

Freshman Kailee Cuico knocked in her first RBI of the game - and fifth of the day - in the third inning with her team-leading seventh double of the season.

Vitek added another RBI single in the fifth inning, and was followed by sophomore Kaylan Howard 's second double of the day which also knocked in a run, and a RBI ground-out by sophomore Lindsey Chambers and RBI single by Rumfelt.

Fuiava finished the Duck scoring with an RBI single in the sixth inning after Burger and Pappas singled to open the stanza.

At game's end, five Cal Poly hitters hit safely, and Nora Sobczak was the only with multiple hits with her singles in the fifth and seventh innings.

Earlier Friday, UO beat UNLV, 11-3, in five innings to raise its record to 5-0 in the series.

Cuico and sophomore Samantha Pappas crushed grand slams, and senior Monique Fuiava added her sixth straight game-winning RBI on a first-inning single.

Sophomore pitcher Jessica Moore (13-2) got the win against the Rebels after she struck out three, walked three and allowed three hits.

Looking ahead to Saturday's second-day tourney action, UO faces Fairfield and UNLV at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
