Oregon vs. Baylor
Acrobatics and Tumbling
March 7, 2011
Head Coach Felecia Mulkey:
On why the meet took longer than usual:
“All of those officials were brand new officials and the new scoring method took them longer. For the national championship we will be flying in more experienced officials.”
On the team's performance tonight:
“We really wanted to bring the scores up in the first half because we've been relying on our tumbling. We've been working on cleaning up the first half and it paid off.”
On the key loss of Natasha Katzaroff:
“She will be back for the Maryland meet. She's been having trouble with her back. We let her have one pass because we wanted to ease her back into it. But Kelsey Rowell stepped up and did four fulls in one pass, which is nearly impossible.”
On how to prepare for the East Coast trip:
“We need to clean up the team routine. It's been a thorn in our side all year.”
On the national championship:
“I would like to beat Maryland in the regular season and be ranked number one going into nationals. If we stay healthy and play our cards right it might be an Oregon/Maryland matchup.”
Senior base Tori Mayard:
On their performance tonight:
“We improved a lot from last meet. We had three weeks to work on the first half of the meet and we tried to perfect that.”
Junior base Kelsey Rowell
On how the team can improve:
“I think consistency, we need to fix a few bobbles and clean up a few deductions.
On her tumbling pass:
“I saw the end of the mat coming and I knew it'd be deduction if I went off the mat, so I thought fast and I curved my body and took a step forward instead of a step backwards.”
