SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The University of Oregon's men's golf team will need to make up at least 20 strokes on Sunday if the two-time defending champion Ducks want to make it three straight team titles at the 65th annual Western Intercollegiate on the famed Alister MacKenzie-designed Pasatiempo Golf Course.
With play halted due to darkness during Round 2 of the 54-hole event, Oregon stood in a tie for third place with No. 22 Arizona State at 18-over par, trailing No. 7 Augusta State (8-over) by 10 shots and No. 3 UCLA (2-under) by 20.
Play will resume at 8 a.m. Sunday.
The only official results from Saturday were for the opening 18 holes. No Oregon players broke par as Daniel Miernicki
and Andrew Vijarro
shared the team-low with 1-over 71s on the 6,615-yard, par 71 course.
Jack Paton
was next at 2-over, followed by Jack Dukminier and Eugene Wong
at 3-over, and Robbie Ziegler
at 4-over. The five low scores in each round count toward the team total.
The individual leader before play was suspended was Stanford's Andrew Yun at 3-under.
No team has won three straight Western Intercollegiate titles since Stanford in the 1950s.
