Klech, Godfrey Score 11 Pac-10 Points for Ducks

TUCSON, Ariz. - David Klech won the 110 meter hurdles and had personal bests in the discus and javelin to finish second in the Pac-10 decathlon Saturday night at Drachman Stadium. The Ducks also counted a sixth-place finish from Kevin Godfrey and scored 11 team points in the league championships.
Klech remained in second throughout day two of the competition to set a personal best with 7,581 points in just his second career decathlon. Klech's score ranked 10th on the Oregon career list.
The senior from San Ramon, Calif., opened the day by winning the 110 meter hurdles in 13.94. He followed that with a personal-best throw of 115-4/35.16m that was good for eighth in the discus.
Klech also cleared 13-10/4.22m in the pole vault and set another personal best in the javelin with a throw of 123-8/37.70m. He wrapped the decathlon by finishing third in the 1,500 meters in 4:19.22.
Godfrey, who fell out of a scoring position early on Saturday, used a personal best in the 1,500 meters to climb up to sixth in the final standings with 6,853 points, also a career best.
The junior from Roseburg, Ore., set decathlon PR's in the 110 hurdles (15.56) and the pole vault, where he took sixth by clearing 15-5.75/4.72m. He climbed back into the points by finishing fourth in the 1,500 meters in 4:29.34.
First day leader Jeremy Taiwo of Washington won the league decathlon title with 7,742 points.
