UO Takes Lead in Vail, Sports Three Ducks in Top 10

VAIL, Colo. – The University of Oregon women's golf team moved into the lead at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, thanks to Tuesday's low second-round team score on the Red Sky Fazio Course.
Oregon (first, 297-304-601) ended the day with a five-stroke advantage over Ole Miss (second-tie, 300-306-606), Denver (second-tie, 299-307-606) and Pepperdine (second-tie, 300-306-606).
First-day leader UC Davis followed one stroke back in fifth place (294-313-607) in the 18-team field that featured four NCAA qualifiers from last year and eight teams that ranked top 40 at the end of last season.
For the second straight day, junior Cheyenne Hickle led UO in the overall standings and stood tied for fourth overall (72-75-147), one stroke ahead of Duck freshman Cassy Isagawa (sixth-tie, 77-71-148).
The latter player and Wailuku, Hawai'i product climbed 33 spots in the individual standings Tuesday, and carded UO's low score of the young fall slate.
Oregon also counted scores from a third player in the top 10 overall - senior Ashley Edwards (10th-tie, 73-76-149) - and freshman Cali Hipp (50th-t, 76-82-158).
Glancing at Duck scorecards Tuesday, Isagawa ended with three birdies (#2, 17, 18), 13 par scores (#1, 3, 5-12, 14-16), and two bogeys (#4, 13).
Hickle turned in an eagle (#18) for the second consecutive round, and also penciled in three birdies (#5, 9, 17), 10 par scores (#3, 6-8, 10-12, 14-16), two bogeys (#2, 4) and two double-bogeys (#1, 13).
On the par 72, 6,405-yard course, Edwards added two birdies of her own (#3, 18), and and Hipp had one (#8).
Overall in the individual standings, two of Monday's first-round leaders still stood in a tie for the lead Tuesday – Natalie Gleadall of Ole Miss (69-74-143) and Grace Na of Pepperdine (69-74-143). Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma followed in third place (70-75-145), two strokes ahead of Hickle and Charlotte Lorentzen of Georgia State (fourth-tie, 71-76-147).
