Lacrosse Offense Sputters Against Towson

BALTIMORE, Md.- After scoring 22 goals in their first two matches, the University of Oregon lacrosse team's offense was held to just five goals in a 16-5 loss at Towson to end their East Coast road trip on Tuesday morning in Baltimore, Md.
The Tigers (1-0) got off to a hot start scoring two quick goals three minutes into the match, but following a foul, the Ducks (1-2) were awarded a free position attempt. Sophomore Nikki Puszcz was able to get a pass from senior Kristina Barrett and found the back of the goal to cut Towson's lead to 2-1.
After trading goals, including another Puszcz goal, UO tied up the match at 3-3 after sophomore Shannon Propst nailed her fifth goal of the season at the 13:56 minute mark.
The Tigers rattled off three straight goals before Puszcz broke up the run by tallying her third goal of the match for the Ducks to move the scoreboard to 6-4 in favor of the Tigers.
Towson put up two more goals to take an 8-4 lead into the intermission.
From there the Tigers rolled off three more goals before Oregon recorded their last goal of the match at 8:56, another Propst goal that moved the match to 11-5.
Towson out shot Oregon 26-18 and held a slight 16-15 edge in groundballs.
Mary Teeters (1-0) earned the win in goal with 10 saves and sophomore Caroline Federighi (1-2) recorded the loss with four saves in 47:32 minutes of action. Junior Salliebeth Finnegan replaced Federighi for the last 12:28 and conceded five goals and did not record any saves.
With their combined five goals, Propst and Puszcz lead the Ducks with six goals apiece on the season.
Andi Raymond, Katie Leech and Kelly Custer all recorded "hat tricks" for the Tigers.
Oregon is back in action on Sunday for the home and conference opener against California at 1 p.m. at Pape' Field.
