ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 10 Baylor softball team (13-2) ended the eight-game win streak of No. 10 Oregon (9-3) Friday in the second game of the Citrus Classic, and sullied an otherwise solid pitching effort by All-Pac-12 pitcher Jessica Moore (8-3).

The Sutter, Calif., native logged her 500th career strikeout in the fifth inning, and her current tally (501) ranks second all-time for UO behind third-year head coach Mike White's former pupil Amy Harris (584). Moore also improved a spot on the all-time Duck list for career complete games and is now tied with Melissa Rice (37).

In the fast-paced game dictated in the pitching circle, the returning World Series advancer Bears capitalized on a questionable call for their first run in the second inning.

After a one-out single and stolen base by Delaney Guy, she advanced to third base on a single. The next batter, Jordan Strickland, hit a hard grounder right to second baseman Kaylan Howard who appeared to tag the runner passing by, then flipped to first base for the apparent inning-ending double play.

However, the umpire ruled that Howard didn't have complete possession of the ball on the tag and ruled the runner safe at second base, which allowed the subsequent run to score.

BU's other run in the fifth inning came around after a lead-off single by sophomore Clare Hosack, passed ball, and error at second base.

Moore ultimately struck out three, walked none, and scattered five hits. Only one of her two runs allowed were earned - the fifth time in eight starts in 2012 that she has allowed one or less earned runs - and she forced the Bears to strand four base runners.

In contrast, the Duck offense stranded seven base runners, after it combined for four hits and four walks.

UO's lone run came in the third inning after freshman left fielder Sara Goodrum reached on an error by the third baseman. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Courtney Ceo, then came around on a single up the middle by freshman Janie Takeda that was mishandled by the center fielder.

Oregon stranded one runner in each of the first four innings, two in the sixth (albeit with both reaching after two outs) and another in the seventh.

At game's end, Ducks that hit safely included Ceo (1-for-2, 1 walk), Takeda (1-for-3, RBI, 1 BB), freshman Hannah Melick (1-for-2, 1 walk) and Pappas (1-for-3).

Bear starter Courtney Repka (6-0) - the new #1 Baylor pitcher after returning second-team All-American and junior Whitney Canion tore her ACL last week - struck out none, walked four, allowed three hits, and her one run allowed was unearned.

At the plate for Baylor, four players hit safely - Shelbi Redfean (1-for-3), Guy (1-for-3), Kayce Walker (1-for-3) and Hosack (2-for-2).

Immediately before on Friday, UO beat returning NCAA advancer Illinois State, 5-2. Senior Kelsey Chambers and sophomore Kailee Cuico stroked RBI doubles in the first inning, and Melick drilled a three-run, pinch-hit homer in the fourth inning.

Against the returning Missouri Valley Conference champions, Duck frosh Karissa Hovinga (3-0) pitched her third complete game, struck out five, walked none, gave up six hits, and one allowed run was earned.

Looking ahead, UO returns to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for a pair of games Saturday vs. Purdue and Pittsburgh at 7 and 9:15 a.m. Pacific Time. The teams entered the tourney with 9-0 and 5-2 records, respectively.

The Ducks wrap up tourney action Sunday vs. Virginia and No. 24 North Carolina at 6 and 11:15 a.m. PT (note: local Eastern Time is 3 hours different).
