CORVALLIS, Ore. – En route to its fifth straight Civil War series win, the No. 15 University of Oregon softball team (19-4, 1-0) won its Pac-12 opener by an 8-2 count over Oregon State (21-8, 0-1) Saturday at the OSU Softball Complex.

In the series sponsored by PacificSource Health Plans and Northwest Dodge Dealers, Oregon State staked a 2-0 lead in the second inning, before UO scored the game's remaining runs in the final four innings.

The Ducks took the lead in the fourth inning with its first three runs, then added two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

In the circle for UO, junior Jessica Moore (13-4) struck out six, walked two, allowed two hits, and neither of her runs allowed were earned in her 14th complete game of the campaign.

At the plate for the Ducks, junior second baseman Kaylan Howard opened scoring in the fourth with her team-leading sixth homer of the season – a one-out shot off the bottom of the left field scoreboard. Howard knocked in freshman center fielder Janie Takeda who had singled and sophomore Kailee Cuico who had walked en route to her team-best seventh game-winning RBI of the season

In the fifth inning, Takeda drove in UO's next run on an infield ground-out, and junior shortstop Kelsey Chambers followed with an RBI double down the left field line.

In the sixth inning, senior designated player Christie Nieto stroked an RBI double that scored sophomore catcher Alexa Peterson who had walked.

In the seventh, Chambers launched her fourth homer of the season over the left field scoreboard, and knocked in sophomore third baseman Courtney Ceo who had singled to open the inning. Chambers' blast was her 30th career-wise and left her one shy of the fifth-best mark in school history. Her three RBI's on the day raised her career total to 115 - two off UO's eighth-best mark.

At game's end, Chambers (2-for-4) and Ceo (2-for-3, walk) had multiple hits, and four others had single hits.

OSU starter Tina Andreana (5-6) pitched the opening four innings, struck out two, walked two, gave up two hits, and her four runs allowed were earned.

Marina Demore pitched the fifth inning, had no strikeouts or walks, and allowed two hits. Aryn Feickert worked the next 1.1 innings, struck out one, walked one, allowed four hits, and two of her three runs allowed were earned.

Paige Hall finished the game for the hosts, struck out none, walked one, and allowed no hits or runs in her 0.2 innings.

At the plate, one Beaver hit safely twice – All-Pac-12 honorable mention and left fielder Lea Cavestany – while Hall also reached via a walk.

OSU scored its runs in the second after an error by the third baseman and walk started the inning. A throwing error by the second baseman on a line-out and attempted double play to first base allowed the lead runner to advance to third base. A ground-out scored OSU's first run, and a double by Cavestany down the left field line scored the other run.

The Beavers threatened to score again in the fifth when a hit by pitch and single opened the inning. Moore answered with a strikeout and ground-out, the forced a fly-out with runners on second and third base.

Looking ahead the two teams return for single games on Sunday and Monday that start at 3 p.m. and noon, respectively.
