ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 18 University of Oregon softball team (12-3) opened Citrus Classic final day action with a 6-2 win over Virginia (13-5) Sunday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Oregon struck early, thanks to a three-run triple in the second inning courtesy of junior Allie Burger. Her first three-bagger of the year sailed into in the left field corner over a draw-in outfield, and scored Kailee Cuico and Alexa Peterson who had walked earlier in the inning.

After UVa scored two in the top of the fifth, UO answered with three more runs in bottom half of the inning.

After Burger and freshman Janie Takeda reached via singles, senior Kelsey Chambers and sophomore Kailee Cuico added 1- and 2-RBI singles with two outs to account for the game's final runs.

In the circle, Duck junior pitcher Jessica Moore (8-3), struck out seven, walked two, gave up six hits, and one of her two runs allowed were earned.

Burger ended the game with a season-high-tying two hits and five others hit safely once - freshman Takeda (1-for-3), Chambers (1-for-3, 1 RBI), Cuico (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 1 BB), sophomore Alexa Peterson (1-for-2, 1 BB) and junior Samantha Pappas (1-for-3).

UVA junior starter Melanie Mitchell (8-3), also pitched a complete game, struck out three, walked two, gave up seven hits, and all six of her runs allowed were earned.

Virginia had only two hits and trailed 2-0 heading into the fifth. Taylor Williams changed that with a a shallow two-run double down the left field line to score the preceding batters who had reached via singles.

UVA threatened again in the sixth when its first two runners reached with no outs. Moore responded by forcing a ground-out, 5-3 double play, and another ground-out to the third baseman to end the inning.

At game's end at the plate for the Cavaliers, Heidi Velk finished 2-for-3, and four others hit safely once.

Looking ahead, UO has its final game of the tourney immediately after against No. 24 North Carolna (14-4).
