Arizona Postgame Quotes
09/23/12 | Football
Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly
On the win…
“I thought they came out right from the start and Arizona
matched us. They were taking every hit we were. Our defense really set the tone
for us. We prepared--had a great week in practice. We don't expect to come in
and have our way with anyone. We play every game like it's the Super Bowl.”
“We need to be confidence to be good; it's going to be a
long season. You gain a lot of confidence from preparing—that's what our guys
did. You get out what you put in.”
On Colt Lyerla…
“As Colt Lyerla continues to get involved in offense there's
becoming certain things he can do and we see that. We don't want to put too
much on his plate. He's a package we've been working on. We've been tying it out
in practice.”
“He had to be prepared the whole game. It's an opportunity to get Bryan Bennett in the game and Colt in a new position. It's nice, as a coach, to have those weapons to bring in. It's nice to have that kind of depth.”
On Marcus Mariota…
“I'm happy with Marcus (Mariota). He has grown every game.
His performance is never the same as the week before. You don't know what to
expect on the field. No one plays a perfect game so you just have to get out
there. He's a prime example of that.”
On being in the red zone…
“A lot of it was us on offense not finishing. We don't have
a lot of finger guys—we have a lot of thumb guys. We have a lot of guys who
embrace the situation.”
Arizona Head Coach Rich Rodriguez
Opening Statements...
“For us, offensively, it was a tale of four bad quarters. We've
got to do a better job of giving our offensive guys the chance to execute
better especially in the red zone. You can't afford to do that against anybody,
let alone Oregon. Our lack of execution and not finishing off drives.”
On Oregon's Defense...
“They're good, they did a nice job. I'll have to watch the
film to see where some of the breakdowns were. Again, it falls back with us, as
coaches. We need to make sure our guys are in a position to make a play. When
we're going to try to beat a team like Oregon, you have to finish off those
drives. We had a lot of opportunities, especially early , and didn't do it.”
“They're athletic and they play hard. They're well coached and they do a good job and we helped them. So, it was a combination of things. It wasn't all us, they had something to do with it too. But we certainly helped them.”
On Quarterback Matt
Scott...
“He got hit and he took a good shot to the hip. He has a lot
of courage. He came back and battled and I gave him a lot of credit.”
On the similarities
between the Arizona offense and the Oregon offense...
“We see it [similar offense]. If they see it, we see it. Who
really gets the edge? They executed better than we did. They won.”
On the two missed
field goals...
“It was a bad hold. It looked like to me. The second one had
a little penetration, low kick. I have to see what the breakdown was there. If
you can't make chip shot field goals, you have a serious issue with your
kicking game.”
On the bright side...
“I think all the guys played hard, but I have to watch the
film because then I'll be able to give a better judgment. But I thought all the
guys played hard, played physical and the defense played their tails off for
the most part. It is disappointing that we didn't finish the way we could have
finished tonight.”
Oregon Players
#12 S Brian Jackson
On the defense…
“We just came out and had a phenomenal game. Everything was
clicking and everyone knew what they had to do at all times. Ifo (Ekpre-Olomu),
Troy (Hill) and Terrance (Mitchell) were all making good plays on the ball. We
were everywhere at all times.”
On practice this week…
“This week at practice, we knew we were ready. We were very
well prepared. We knew we'd play well, but we didn't know it was going to be
like this.”
On the shutout…

a product of great defense and great communication.”

all love each other.”
