Thorpe Pitches Ducks To 6-1 Win At PK Park

EUGENE, Ore. – Tommy Thorpe gave No. 14 Oregon the start the Ducks needed Saturday holding Loyola Marymount scoreless through seven innings in a 6-1 win at PK Park.
Thorpe, who moved to 2-0 on the season, held LMU (3-3) to just four hits in a career-high seven innings, while striking out a career-best six. The sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., didn't allow a base runner past second base.
The Ducks managed just two hits in the win, getting a clutch two-out, two-RBI single from Ryon Healy in a three-run third inning. J.J. Altobelli added a bunt single for the Ducks in a three-run seventh inning. Oregon (5-1) did reach base six times on hit by pitches and twice on walks, all by LMU starter Trevor Mcgill, who fell to 1-1 with the loss.
The Ducks took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, behind three hit batters, a walk and a two-out single.
Megill got the first two batters in the inning, before hitting Altobelli, walking Aaron Payne, and hitting Scott Heineman and Brett Thomas to give Oregon a 1-0 lead. Healy followed with a RBI single off shortstop Joey Boney's glove to put the Ducks on top 3-0.
Oregon added three runs in the eighth with the help of some Lions' defensive miscues. Steven Packard walked and moved to second on a wild pitch by Megill, before coming around to score on a McGill throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Sean Chase, who moved to second on the error.
Altobelli, the next hitter, beat the wild throw on a bunt from reliever Brandon North allowing Chase to score and Altobelli to move to second. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Payne, Altobelli scored on a Heineman ground out to second base to give the Ducks a 6-0 lead.
Oregon and Loyola Marymount wrap up a three-game series Sunday at PK Park with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
