Women's Hoops Stumbles vs. CMU
11/29/14 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS - Despite Jillian Alleyne's 45th career double-double and 13th straight going back to last season, the Ducks fell, 73-67, to Central Michigan in their opening game of the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout.
How It Happend: The Ducks led at halftime, 40-33, behind 16 first-half points from Lexi Bando, but Oregon shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the second half while Central Michigan shot 50 percent after the break.
Crystal Bradford, a candidate for both the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award for player of the year along with Alleyne, led preseason MAC favorite CMU with 34 points and 15 rebounds. Bradford shot 13-of-20 from the field, including 6-of-10, from three-point range. Bando finished with 18 points after scoring just two in the second half. Alleyne scored 14 of her 16 total points in the second half and grabbed 17 total boards but it wasn't enough to overcome Bradford and CMU.
What It Means: The Ducks slide to 2-2 on the season after the loss.
Who Stood Out: Along with Bando's 18 points and Alleyne's double-double, Las Vegas native Amanda Delgado knocked down four three-pointers for 12 points in front of numerous friends and family.
Back In Action: After missing all of last season with a knee injury, junior guard Jordan Loera returned to the court against CMU after a grueling rehab. Loera scored five points in 14 minutes off the bench.
Up Next: The Ducks play again tomorrow at 6 p.m. against American. The Eagles entered the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout but upset Gonzaga tonight in the game prior to the Oregon vs. Central Michigan tilt.
