Seven Run Second Inning Pushes Ducks Past Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 11 Oregon jumped to an early lead and then cruised to a 9-2 win over Stanford on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series at Sunken Diamond.
The Ducks used a seven-run second inning to take command of the game after scoring once in the first. Tyler Baumgartner went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. The senior right fielder picked up a RBI in the top of the first to give Oregon a 1-0 lead and then drove in two in the second.
Shaun Chase was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the eighth and two RBI. Aaron Payne scored two runs and drove in a run, while Mitchell Tolman, Kyle Garlick and A.J. Balta each had one RBI.
Jeff Gold (7-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
Oregon (19-8, 6-3 Pac-12) travels to Gonzaga for games on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Seattle to start a three-game Pac-12 series on Friday. Stanford (10-11, 3-3) visits Oregon State this weekend.
