Raza Leads Ducks on Day Two in San Diego
11/04/15 | Men's Golf
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Led by a strong performance from redshirt junior Sulman Raza, the Oregon men's golf team finished the second round of play at The Gifford in fifth place.
How It Happened: Raza was the low Duck on Tuesday, carding a 4-under 67 at La Costa's par-71, 6,996-yard Legends course to lead Oregon to a second-round, 6-over 290. In fifth place, the Ducks are now 9-over for the tournament with a 36-hole tally of 577. Washington leads the pack at 8-under after 36 holes.
Exhibiting consistency by converting five birdies to only one bogey, Raza's 67 was the lowest score on the course on Tuesday, and tied this year's tournament low set by UCLA's Cole Madey in Monday's first round. The score was the Eugene native's lowest stroke total of the season and matched his lowest score to par this fall. After finishing the first round in a tie for 25th, Raza's day vaulted him up the leaderboard to fifth overall at the conclusion of play Tuesday.
Aaron Wise finished the day with a 2-over 73 and in a tie for 12th after posting a 1-under 70 on Monday. The round was the Duck sophomore's first over-par round of the season. Wise is now 1-over for the week.
After firing a 3-under 68 on Monday, junior Thomas Lim had a rough day, shooting a 9-over 80 to end the second round in a tie for 40th at 6-over.
Senior Zach Foushee turned in a 3-over 74 in his second round. Edwin Yi posted a 5-over 76.
Competing as an individual, Sam Foust carded the first subpar round of his career with a 1-under 70. Foust currently sits in a tie for 30th at 4-over.
What It Means: After a couple of solid performances by Lim and Wise on Monday, Tuesday brought the Ducks an even stronger showing by Raza. Oregon will aim to tie it all together and finish strong as a team in Wednesday's third round to wrap up the fall season on a high note.
