No. 2 Ducks Down Aztecs, 7-3

SAN DIEGO – The No. 2 Oregon softball team won its lone game of the day, defeating host San Diego State 7-3 on Day 2 of the San Diego Classic.
How It Happened: Oregon scored in each of the first three innings, capped by Koral Costa's 2-run homer in the third to build a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
Alyssa Gillespie, who was moved into the leadoff spot, started the game with a bunt single and eventually scored on Hailey Decker's sacrifice fly. UO (16-2) scored three more in the second, thanks to five base hits in the frame, and two more in the third on Costa's fifth long ball of the season.
Cheridan Hawkins (6-2) allowed a single run on two hits in four innings of work. The Ducks' ace struck out three and walked one.
San Diego State (11-7) scored on a wild pitch in the third and tacked on two more in the fifth on Kayla Jordan's 2-run shot off UO reliever Geri Ann Glasco.
Who Stood Out: Costa had a game-highs of three hits (3-for-4) and three runs scored, and barely missed her second round-tripper of the game when she lined a double 225 feet off the center field wall … Hawkins ended a two-game winless streak in the circle … Gillespie finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Odds & Ends: Janie Takeda exited the game in the top of the first inning after an apparent left arm injury while stealing second base … The Ducks managed just one hit after the third inning … There was a brief rain delay in the middle of the contest … The game started more than an hour after its scheduled time due to an extra-inning game and 30-minute rain delay earlier in the day.
Up Next: Oregon was scheduled to face Grand Canyon to wrap up a 4-game stint in the San Diego Classic, but Sunday's games were all canceled due to inclement weather. The Ducks next game will be back in California on Friday vs. No. 1 Florida in the Judy Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT.
