Ducks Take The Lead Behind Inglis' Career Day
04/21/15 | Women's Golf
BOULDER, Colo. – After one round of golf at the Pac-12 Championships, the Ducks find themselves in first place after recording an even-par 284 Monday afternoon at the Boulder Country Club. Caroline Inglis led the Ducks with a career-low 4-under 67 – the lowest round of her career.
The 67 is the lowest score an Oregon player has shot at the Pac-12 Championships since Kendra Little fired a 68 in the final round in 2011 at the Eugene Country Club. Inglis' round featured five birdies and just one bogey. It is also tied for the fourth-lowest round in school history.
The 284 also ties for the 10th-lowest round in program history. Including today, UO has shot a 284 or better in five different tournaments this spring season.
The Scores: After Inglis' career day, the Ducks leaned on their All-American senior to provide the second-best score. Cassy Isagawa finished the round with an even-par 71 thanks to a 2-under 33 front nine that featured three birdies. With Oregon starting their day on No. 10, the Wailuku, Hawai'i, native grew stronger as the day wore on and ended up 2-under on the par-5's – tied for second in the field.
Cathleen Santoso and Kelsey Ulep provided the other two counting scores for the Ducks, with each shooting 2-over 73's.
Ulep was steady throughout her day, recording just three bogeys and one birdie, and Santoso appeared to be headed towards an extremely low day (2-under after 11 holes) until a double bogey and a couple of slip ups down the stretch brought her back above par.
Marcella Pranovia ended the round with a 5-over 76, but showed flashes of quality play on holes No. 4-10 where she went 1-under.
In addition to leading the tournament as a team, Inglis finds herself in first place individually. The junior from Eugene leads Arizona State's Noemi Jimenez (2-under, 69) and six different players – three of which are from UCLA – that fired 1-under 70's.
Big Picture: While the early lead and the best round of the day are all positives, Oregon still has some of the top teams in the country hot on their heels. No. 16 Stanford is just two shots back at 2-over, No. 3 UCLA is at 3-over and No. 7 Washington sits at 5-over. Only 10 shots separate the top seven teams in the field.
With the Ducks having come back from a nine-stroke deficit earlier this year at the Peg Barnard Invitational to win, the Green and Yellow can attest that any team in the Pac-12 can produce an under-par round on any given day.
First Round Stats: The Ducks led the field on the par-3's (2-over, 3.10 average) and on the par-4's (7-over, 4.13 average) today … UCLA recorded the most birdies with 15, UO was right behind with 14 … Inglis' five birdies put her in second in that department … Ulep tied for the most pars on the day with 14.
Round Two: Oregon will tee off on No. 1 tomorrow with players from Stanford beginning at 11:20 a.m. (MT). Temperatures are expected to warm up tomorrow close to 60 degrees and above.
